SINGLENESS IS NOT A DISEASE

SINGLENESS IS NOT A DISEASE

Singleness is not a disease.

“I am interested in you and I would like  you to be a partaker in all aspects of my life.” I cannot lie. These words are often very sweet to hear, when you’ve been single for some time. Your sense of thinking straight is immediately thawrted and you are only left with thoughts of starting a new life with this person. As youthful as we are, certain comments and advances from the opposite sex, tend to have a huge effect on us.  We commit everything to build these relationships, while feeding on the romantic appraisals and  end up leaving out the God factor of it.

Satan despises marriage and has attacked it from the beginning(Genesis 3:16). In effect, he detests godly romances too so he does everything possible to draw us away from it, through fornication, pornography , pride and a thousand other means. He tries to take us out of the God-ordained context of intimacy and sex, by introducing cultural and societal norms pertaining to this issue. This is why there are so many distorted views and opinions when it comes to the subject of love, dating, sex and marriage among the youth of today.

Being single and pure infuriates the devil. This is much worse when you try to live as a single Christian brother or sister, devoid of any flirtatious acts and sins. The devil cannot stand it when you endeavor to adhere to all the godly principles of being single. Therefore, he tries to mess it all up by subtly introducing lies about your singleness.

In a world where the youth are often deemed as ‘cool’ and ‘trendy’ when they have numerous sexual partners and encounters, a single young Christian is bound for trouble. Questions start arising on your attractivesness and looks. You could be even tempted to  question your appearance, when you realize that most of your peers are in relationships and you are not. This is the devil at work; he would try to lie to you about certain issues you are insecure about. But mind you, you were knit together by God himself ( Psalm 139:13) therefore, you are the most beautiful creation to have ever lived.

Also, we sometimes feel that we need to get assurance from another person before we realize our self worth. Boyfriends and girlfriends are usually the candidates for this act. However, you need to understand that you are born of Christ and are of Him. You do not need anybody to assure you before you realize this.

In as much as it may not be easy, you need to brace your singleness with pride. Understand that to be single is even a gift to you. It should be a time for you to know both God and yourself more. Embrace this time of your life with joy and strive to overcome all the temptations that come with it.

Also, you shouldn’t  just be single and waiting. Rather, while single and waiting, you should be praying too.
